WIMR Update 05-04-09
Final construction refinements to the WIMR rodent facility are near completion. It is expected that sentinel animals will be placed within the facility to test for pathogens in early June. Adjustments to the cage washing equipment and ventilation equipment also need to occur. If these tasks can be completed without any additional significant problems being discovered, the WIMR rodent vivarium should be available for research animals by August 10, 2009.

HOUSING YOUR ANIMALS IN YOUR LAB?
If you want to house animals outside of the LAR maintained animal facility for over 12 hours, there are several things that need to happen before animals can be placed there.
-
The reason for the alternate housing must be fully described in the animal use protocol.
-
The area must be inspected by the Veterinarians and the Animal Care and Use Committee.
-
Once approved, your staff must be trained on appropriate husbandry requirements. A trainer will contact you once you have been approved. See SMPH ACUC Policy #17.
